The Mattancherry Palace is a marvelous mix of the Kerala style of architecture interspersed with colonial influences. This historic monument is located at around 12 km from Ernakulam and is one of the major travel attractions in Kochi. The Mattancherry Palace was built around 1545 C.E. by the Portuguese and it was built as a present to King Veera Kerala Verma of Kochi dynasty. Mattancherry Palace was also as the Dutch Palace as it underwent major repairs by the Dutch.

Mattancherry Palace is a double storied building that has a vast collection of murals, which depicts some of the great Indian epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata along with revered Gods of the Hindu faith like Lord Krishna of Guruvayur Temple. The mural paintings at the Mattancherry Palace cover an area of almost 300 sq. km. One gets an idea of the lives of the royal family with some of the other exhibits.
